EMDR can help if you're struggling with…

If any of these feel familiar, EMDR may give you the shift talk therapy hasn't.

Trauma & PTSD

Flashbacks, hypervigilance, or a single event that still feels like it's happening now.

Anxiety & Panic

Racing thoughts, chronic worry, or panic attacks that come out of nowhere.

Childhood Wounds

Patterns in relationships, work, or self-worth that trace back further than you'd like.

Grief & Loss

Losses that feel stuck. A person, a role, a version of yourself.

Phobias & Fears

Specific fears (driving, flying, medical) that shrink the size of your life.

"Stuck" in Talk Therapy

You understand your patterns intellectually, but your body hasn't caught up.

What is EMDR, exactly?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It's a structured therapy developed in 1987 and endorsed by the World Health Organization for trauma.

Instead of only talking about difficult memories, EMDR uses gentle side-to-side eye movements (or tapping, or sound) while you briefly focus on a memory. This helps your brain do what it couldn't at the time: process the experience and file it away as the past, not the present.

Most clients notice a shift in how a memory feels within a few sessions. You stay in control the whole time, and you don't have to describe events in detail unless you choose to.

"I'd been in talk therapy for years and understood my patterns, but I still felt them. EMDR was the first thing that actually changed how the memories felt in my body. I don't flinch at things that used to floor me."

Common Questions

Do I need to talk about the trauma in detail?

No. One of the reasons people choose EMDR is that you don't have to describe events in detail. You focus internally on the memory while your therapist guides the process. You share only what feels right.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you're working through. For a single-incident trauma, many clients feel a meaningful shift in 6 to 12 sessions. Complex or childhood trauma usually takes longer. Your therapist will discuss a realistic plan after your assessment.

Can I claim Medicare Rebates?

Yes. If you have a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP, you can claim Medicare rebates for up to 10 sessions per calendar year. We'll walk you through this on your call.

Where is your clinic and can I do sessions in person?

Yes. Our clinic is at 253 Latrobe Terrace, Geelong 3220, and in-person sessions are how we prefer to deliver EMDR whenever possible. Being in the same room helps with attunement and safety, which matters for trauma work.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes, secure video sessions are available for people who can't get to the Geelong clinic: regional Victoria, interstate, or if you have mobility or scheduling constraints. EMDR can be delivered effectively via telehealth with the right setup. We'll discuss whether it's the right fit on your call.

Is EMDR safe? Will I feel worse?

EMDR is well-researched and considered safe when delivered by a trained clinician. Some sessions can bring up strong feelings, but your therapist prepares you carefully and you stay in control at every step.

What if I'm not sure EMDR is right for me?

That's exactly what the initial call is for. There's no obligation to book. We'll help you figure out whether EMDR fits, or point you toward something more suitable if not.

Ready to feel different?

You've been carrying this long enough. If you're in Geelong or the surrounding region, let's take the first step together. One form, one call, no pressure.
